Detailed Coverage of the Tokyo Auto Salon! Plenty of Announcements and Smiles from Car Lovers Again This Year

2025.01.22

This year's Tokyo Auto Salon was full of world premiere announcements like the GR Yaris midship concept, a new rally car, and more. Once again Yuta Tomikawa covers it all.

The largest custom car festival in the world, Tokyo Auto Salon 2025, was held from January 10 to 12. Over three days, it recorded approximately 260,000 visitors, finishing on a highly successful note.

At Toyota Times News, once again Yuta Tomikawa went on site to give a thorough report. Chief engineer Naohiko Saito, who is in charge of GR Yaris development, gave him a run-through of the GR Yaris midship concept, which was Morizo’s top-ranked story in his top 10 news stories for 2025. Saito says that by moving the engine back, they expect improved steering responsiveness. And could we even see it at this year’s Super Taikyu...?

During the demo run, the GR Corolla Rally concept, which also made its world debut, dazzled fans with blasts of noise and white plumes of smoke.

Also, we got to see students from automobile universities show off their custom jobs, Chairman Akio “Morizo” Toyoda’s boyhood dream garage recreated, and an appearance by Tomikawa’s “partner.”

This year’s Tokyo Auto Salon was once again full of things that make car lovers smile. If you weren’t able to attend this year, take this opportunity to feel part of the excitement.
